Now only gold and silver are missing
This year's chamber music series for children ends with a great festival of colours in the Kleine Tonhalle.
Since last October, the girl Yvi has been searching for colours in Zurich's community centres. Because, as the title of the first part of our "Kunterwunderbunt" series says: "All grey, not at all clever".
Yvi collected the first colours together with a wind and harp trio from the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and music by Swiss composer Rodolphe Schacher. In part two, five brass players brought red into play. A mixed quartet with two strings, clarinet and marimba was responsible for black and white in part three.
The best thing about composing for children, says Rodolphe Schacher in an interview, is that you can do anything: "If something sounds modern, it's simply different for them, but I've never experienced any negative reactions." This was also evident in these performances: How openly the children reacted to the music, how they joined in the excitement of the story and Nelly Danker's production. And of course they helped Yvi in her search: they asked questions, made things and sang along.
So now the final Festival of Colours is about to take place in the Kleine Tonhalle: with gold and silver and a larger cast under the direction of Margarita Balanas, it will be truly colourful and festive.
