"Towards Paradise" in the concert hall
In this concert recording, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger perform Jörg Widmann's new trumpet concerto.
The Grosse Tonhalle was almost completely plunged into darkness when trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger began to play Jörg Widmann's new trumpet concerto. The trumpeter moves around the orchestra as he plays, almost as if he were searching. What he finds in concrete terms are always new and fascinating islands of sound, namely where he pauses in the orchestra.
There were already bright, luminous sound colours at the beginning of the concert, with Richard Wagner's prelude to his Grail opera "Lohengrin". And where there is so much light, darkness is not far away. It comes in the piece by our Creative Chair Anna Thorvaldsdottir, who takes us musically into space. At least the experience that this music, which has an almost physical pull, has in store for the listener is comparable.
