Contemporary Music
New sounds, new formats, new experiences: There is much to discover in contemporary works.
A symphony orchestra is both an attractive and complex challenge for today's composers. This also applies to our Creative Chair, the British composer, conductor and pianist Thomas Adès, several of whose works will be performed. There are few composers who stand out with their very own tonal language - "Thomas Adès is one of them".
Other contemporary composers can also be discovered: Accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, mandolinist Avi Avital and clarinettist Martin Fröst will present works by Tõnu Kõrvits, Giuseppe Sollima and Anna Clyne that were written for them. In the concert with which the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich is taking part in the Sonic Matter festival, pieces by Hannah Kendall and Unsuk Chin will be performed alongside a work by Thomas Adès. Contemporary compositions can also be discovered in various chamber music programmes.
