Our Creative Chair Thomas Adès and our focus artist Kirill Gerstein have been artist friends for many years. In the week leading up to this concert, they will present a programme conducted by Thomas Adès, featuring his piano concerto, which was written for Kirill Gerstein. And now they will sit down behind the keys together for a pianistic condensation of Adès' successful chamber opera "Powder Her Face". For three pieces by Ligeti, which are based on a relatively simple musical idea that subsequently transforms and branches out in constant movement - and in the process also incorporates small homages to the minimalists Steve Reich and Terry Riley, to Chopin and Schumann. And finally for Messiaen's "Visions de l'Amen", which the composer wrote for himself and his future wife Yvonne Loriod.
