Last season, Víkingur Ólafsson made several guest appearances as a focus artist, and now he returns for a recital with works by Bach, Beethoven and Schubert. All of these works are either in E major or E minor - once again demonstrating the Icelandic pianist's preference for cleverly and surprisingly conceived programmes. The choice of keys is not the only link: he also sees references between Bach and Beethoven. Some of Beethoven's sonatas seem "like a declaration of love to Bach", he once said. What he means by this will undoubtedly be heard in the concert.
