the ensemble has entitled this concert programme "No Little Night Music", which is entirely dedicated to the night - but without Mozart's famous piece. The tonal colours of the pieces, which feature two, three or even four violas, are nocturnal. At the centre of the programme is Mozart's String Quintet K. 406: Here he arranges his own earlier work, a serenade (i.e. evening or night music) for wind quintet. Mendelssohn's Adagio, which does entirely without violins, also has a serenade-like character. There are also two nocturnal madrigals from the English Renaissance and the atmospheric "Nachtstück" by Austrian composer Max von Weinzierl.
