"Mozart again at last!" This is the motto of the chamber music matinees in the 2025/26 season, and a Mozart work takes centre stage in this wind programme. The Serenade K. 375 was written as a kind of application piece: Mozart organised the premiere in 1781 in the house of a Viennese painter and also invited the personal chamberlain of Emperor Joseph II - whom he indirectly tried to impress with this music: "That's why I wrote it a little sensibly," he wrote in a letter to his father. Reasonable in this context means: despite its entertaining character, it is contrapuntally artful and harmonically refined. The young Beethoven was also impressed by this work; the inspiration cannot be ignored, especially in the adagio of his sextet. Overall, however, the entertaining tone dominates here too, just as in Carl Maria von Weber's Adagio and Rondo.
