Francis Poulenc composed the suite "L'invitation au Château" as an interlude to a play by Jean Anouilh. The play is full of intrigue, it mixes humour with reflections on appearance and reality - and Poulenc translated this esprit perfectly into his music. Thomas Adès' "Catch" is also theatrical music, in the literal sense of the word: in addition to the instrumental parts, the ensemble also has scenic tasks. Finally, the "Revue de Cuisine" by Martinů, who lived in France for over twenty years and therefore fits in perfectly with the French focus of this year's chamber music lunch concerts, once again tells a story full of intrigue - in the form of a witty ballet of kitchen utensils.
